JOB TITLE:

Ambulette Operator

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

An employee in this capacity serves as a valuable member of the Lackawanna Ambulance team representing not only themselves but Lackawanna Ambulance at all times.  An Ambulette Operator is responsible for providing a service to customers in a capacity that requires transportation to a doctor's office, clinic or hospital to meet any and all their appointments.  Work is performed under the supervision of a Lackawanna Ambulance shift coordinator.  A Lackawanna Ambulance Ambulette Operator must communication rationally and effectively with patients, patient family members, physicians, hospital personnel and his or her peers.  A Lackawanna Ambulance Ambulette Operator must respect others without excluding him or herself.  Honesty, reliability, integrity and the ongoing will to achieve is an important role in his or her daily duties.    

 

 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Respond to pre-scheduled transports providing a service to all Lackawanna Ambulance clients that do not require ambulance transportation
  • Participates in continuous training programs specific to this position.
  • Adequately learn and complete any and all Lackawanna Ambulance paperwork, documentation and client receipt forms.
  • Properly place all funds obtained throughout the course of his or her shift, with receipt proof to the proper Lackawanna Ambulance personnel.
  • Familiarize themselves with the different boroughs, streets and nursing facilities in reference to Lackawanna Ambulance's everyday contacts.
  • Participates in any and all work environment maintenance duties such as station upkeep, garbage removal and vehicle cleanliness is mandatory. The Lackawanna Ambulance managerial team prides themselves on appearance and expects each employee to have this same pride.

     Performs any and all related duties as required.

      Lackawanna Ambulance, Inc. Management Team reserves the right to add or amend duties as necessary.

 
 
ABILITY, SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE:

      Ability to adapt and overcome any and all emergency situations up to the best of the individual's training, knowledge and abilities.

      Ability to effective operate an ambulance or any other emergency response vehicle with a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License and the ability to operate said vehicle in day or night situations.  The safe operation of the vehicle may include (but not limited to) driving in congested traffic, on potentially hazardous road conditions, within the posted speed limits and must possess the knowledge of when to utilize safe operational judgment.

      Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining and recognizing when further medical attention may be needed.

      Ability to effectively communicate and delegate authority to others; not only as a representative of Lackawanna Ambulance, Inc, but as the highest trained individual in the pre-hospital setting.

      Ability to gather information from patients, their family or care-givers, through initial interviews, observations, physical assessment and the use of diagnostic equipment to uphold the highest standards of care expected under the Lackawanna Ambulance's Medical Direction and Management Teams.

      A Lackawanna Ambulance Ambulette Operator must endure all elements including standing, kneeling or bending for long periods of time, assisting and maneuvering patients through confined spaces, over uneven surfaces or up and down ramps or stairs.

      Ability to communicate effectively and coherently with the appropriate public service agencies, extended care facilities, hospital personnel, physician assistants and or doctors.

      Ability, skill and knowledge to read, comprehend and utilize provided mapping of each individual county, borough, city or town in their primary response areas.  Each response vehicle is equipped with sufficient map materials. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

     Lackawanna Ambulance Paramedic responsibilities may require a high level of physical ability to include (but not limited to) vision, hearing, speaking, flexibility and strength.  Work may include sitting, walking, running, bending and lifting in excess of one hundred and fifty (150) pounds.  At times the previous mentioned tasks may occur multiple times or may be excessive during a work assigned tour.   Lackawanna Ambulance Ambulette Operators are reminded to exercise sound judgment when their safety or the safety of others may be compromised.

     Lackawanna Ambulance encourages sound physical fitness programs, offered at no cost to the individual and rewards individuals who participate in such programs.  Fitness program specifics can be obtained from any Lackawanna Ambulance Managerial Team Member.


EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS and TRAINING:

   A High School Diploma or Equivalent.

   A valid Pennsylvania Driver's License. (Lackawanna Ambulance routinely verifies driver status through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles).

   Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) certification through the American Heart Association.

   A Lackawanna Ambulance Ambulette Operator will have a successful background with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.  A clean driving record is mandatory.  A proactive attitude in regards to being the best is a must.  A Lackawanna Ambulance Ambulette Operator must be capable of assessing all the needs and wants of Lackawanna Ambulance's customers.  Lackawanna Ambulance seeks candidates who are flexible enough to deal with various individuals and or circumstances that he or she may encounter throughout the course of his or her shift.   A Lackawanna Ambulance Ambulette Operator must want to obtain the same main goals of Lackawanna Ambulance, that of being the best and performing above and beyond the customers expectations.
